Join us at the Cuff for our regular Friday night dancing, but starting 30 minutes earlier to give you more dance time! Admission to the Cuff Complex is free before 9:30 pm.
Tonight’s Two-Step lesson is geared for beginners and for those who need a brush up on their basics. (Saturday morning workshops will be for dancers with higher skill levels.) The Barn Dance is an easy Mixer dance, also great for beginners.
You can pick up your registration packet or register for the hoedown at the Cuff until 9:00 pm. (If you will be arriving later than that, you can pick it up at the Century Ballroom later in the evening, or at events on Saturday morning.)
Location: Century Ballroom (corner of 10th & Pine, 2nd floor)
Time: Friday, 8:00 pm–1:00 am
Lessons: The Century Ballroom’s same-sex dance lessons run from 6:00–8:00 pm. Please visit their website for details. (These lessons are not part of the Emerald City Hoedown.)
DJ: Hallie Kupperman (8:00–11:00 pm), Jim Drew (11:00 pm–1:00 am)
Cost: $7 for those not registered for the weekend. For registered attendees, be sure to have the Century admission card from your registration packet to provide at the door.
After Cuff Country ends at 10:30 pm, we move three blocks down the street to the Century Ballroom for their same-sex Outdancing night. (Outdancing starts at 8:00 pm, so you can move down to the Century Ballroom earlier, if you desire.)
The music mix at Century Ballroom will have more swing and other non-country dance music in it than at Cuff Country.
You can pick up your registration packet or register for the hoedown at the Century Ballroom from 9:30–11:00 pm.
Location: Caffé Vita (on Pike, between 10th and 11th)
Time: Saturday, 9:00–10:00 am

This workshop is for anyone who has enough two-step under their belt to get around the floor and needs to build skills doing basic turns and spins such as inside and outside spins, cuddle, and switching in and out of promenade.
Highly recommended for dancers who took the Cuff Country lesson on Friday night, and for anyone who needs a skills refresher.
Following the workshop, there will be 15 minutes of music for you to practice what you learned.

Workshop #3a: Basic-Plus Waltz
Location: Century Ballroom (corner of 10th & Pine, 2nd floor)
Time: Saturday, 1:15–2:15 pm
Instructor: Michael Kelson
Cost:$5 for drop-in attendees
An Austrian musicologist once wrote, “If there exists a form of music that is a direct expression of sensuality, it is the Waltz…” Although he was writing about the Viennese Waltz, it is no less true of Country-Western Waltz, and this ever-popular dance always fills the floor. This class will move quickly though the basics of the waltz, and introduce several eye-catching patterns to enhance your presence and partner connection on the dance floor, including graceful transitions between open and closed positions, spirals, and teacup turns. To get the most out of this workshop, you should be comfortable with the waltz basic.
Following the workshop, there will be 15 minutes of music for you to practice what you learned. This time will also allow you to walk to the Cuff Complex if your next workshop will occur there.
Registration packets are only available at Century Ballroom in the afternoon.
Location: Cuff Complex (corner of 13th & Pine)
Time: Saturday, 1:15–2:15 pm
Instructor: Jim Drew
Cost:$5 for drop-in attendees
Shadow is a popular dance, where the dancers have to be very friendly with each other. Jim will teach the basic footwork (Two-Step footwork to slow West Coast Swing rhythms), several standard patterns, and some technique tips to make Shadow both look good and feel good! This workshop will be suitable for dancers who have already learned Beginning Two-Step.
Following the workshop, there will be 15 minutes of music for you to practice what you learned. This time will also allow you to walk to the Century Ballroom if your next workshop will occur there.
Registration packets are only available at Century Ballroom in the afternoon.
Workshop #4a: Basic West Coast Swing
Location: Century Ballroom (corner of 10th & Pine, 2nd floor)
Time: Saturday, 2:30–3:30 pm
Instructor: Steve Rockwell
Cost:$5 for drop-in attendees
If you’ve never experienced West Coast Swing, come out on the floor! You’ll have a chance to learn the basic “rules of the game,” and several of the most common dance patterns. Although WCS can be one of the most complicated and showy competitive dances, people love it because it gives them the chance to deeply explore communication with their partner through lead and follow connection. This class will be all about introducing the basics: rhythm, connection, and slot — great things to review even if you’ve been dancing WCS for years.
Following the workshop, there will be 15 minutes of music for you to practice what you learned. This time will also allow you to walk to the Cuff Complex if your next workshop will occur there.
Registration packets are only available at Century Ballroom in the afternoon.

Time: Saturday, 2:30–3:30 pm

(Step Sheet) (Video)

Location: Century Ballroom (corner of 10th & Pine, 2nd floor)
Time: Saturday, 3:45–4:45 pm
Instructor: Steve Rockwell
Cost:$5 for drop-in attendees
This is a continuation of the previous workshop, but will move quickly into a slightly more complicated set of beginners steps. Steve’s goal for this workshop is for every participant to leave with WCS under our belts that we have a true sense of the dance, and enough comfort level that we can get out on the dance floor and have a good time!
Following the workshop, there will be 15 minutes of music for you to practice what you learned.
Registration packets are only available at Century Ballroom in the afternoon.

Instructors: Terry Felts, Hagan Ko, Christa Erwin, Ruby Luke, Nick Literski, and Jim Drew
DJ: Jim Drew
Cost: $20 (for the entire Hoedown Ball) for those not registered for the weekend
During the first hour of the Ball, we want to make sure that everyone is up to speed on some of the Seattle area’s most popular floor-filling dances. We’ll take just 5-6 minutes to do a rapid review teaching, and then dance each one — enough to refresh your memory if you haven’t done the dance in a while, and real quick learners may be able to pick up something new.
Dances scheduled (we hope to get to all of them): Roll Back the Rug (Terry), Ghost Train (Hagan), Slap Leather (Christa), Tush Push (Ruby), Tailgate (Nick), Southern Cross Cha Cha (Jim).
Registration packets are available at the Polish Home Association.

Time: Saturday, 8:00–9:00 pm
DJ: Jim Drew
Cost: $20 (for the entire Hoedown Ball) for those not registered for the weekend
For those who are big line dance fans, we want to make sure that you get as much dedicated line dance time as we can. from 8:00-8:30, we will do nothing but line dances, and then from 8:30-9:00, we will do a 50/50 mix of line and couples dances. Got a favorite? Request it from the DJ!
For those in the line dance workshops Saturday afternoon, we plan to do lightning reviews of all three dances during this hour. That will be about 90 seconds of review, one slow cycle and one fast, just enough to be sure you can do it again that evening.
Registration packets are available at the Polish Home Association.
Emerald City Hoedown Ball:
Entertainment & Dancing
Location: Polish Home Association (1714 18th Avenue, near Madison)
Time: Saturday, 9:00 pm–12:30 am
DJ: Keith Gehrig
Cost: $20 (for the entire Hoedown Ball) for those not registered for the weekend
At 9:00 will be our first performance of the evening and a formal welcome to the Emerald City Hoedown Ball, so you’ll want to be sure you’re in the building well before then! We’ll follow that through roughly the next hour with some other performances by our guest dance groups.
Later in the evening, look for a couple special dances to set new traditions for the Emerald City Hoedown.
Registration packets are available at the Polish Home Association.
Location: Seattle Eagle (314 E Pike Street)
Time: Saturday, 11:00 pm–2:00 am
After you’re done dancing for the evening, scoot down the Hill to the Seattle Eagle for their Saturday night Underwear Party, and strip down to your briefs, boxers, or jock strap. (A clothes check is available for $1.)
Note: This is the Eagle’s monthly Manhunt Jockstrap Party, where Manhunt.net members pay no cover. The Eagle’s management has told us to just make it simplest, tell the door staff that you are a Manhunt member. (Of course, there’s nothing stopping you from creating a profile at Manhunt and being authentic!)
Location: Caffé Vita (on Pike, between 10th and 11th)
Time: Sunday, 9:00–10:00 am
Join us upstairs at Caffé Vita for morning coffee, pastries, and conversation before the spotlight West Coast Swing workshop begins.

Time: Sunday, 10:00 am–1:00 pm
Instructor: Steve Rockwell
Cost: $20 for those without a weekend registration, limited to space available
Unlike Saturday’s workshops, attendees for the WCS “spotlight” workshop should already be proficient in WCS and be used to handling a “whip” with ease. This three-hour intermediate workshop will move quickly, adding spins, pivots, syncopations, and more to up the ante for our dancing!
Time: Sunday, 1:00–2:00 pm
There are several great places for lunch within a couple blocks walk of the Century Ballroom. Consult your registration packet for a list of suggestions and a map of the neighborhood.
Afternoon Dance:
Line Dance Review
Location: Cuff Complex (corner of 13th & Pine)
Time: Sunday, 2:00–3:00 pm

Christa and Hagan will take about 15 minutes per dance to review Simplemente, Cute Cute Cute, and Mandolin Dreams, the three dances taught on Saturday. If you missed the line dance workshops, this is your second chance to pick these dances up, if you’re a quick study! We want to make sure these have a good chance of sticking around!
Location: Cuff Complex (corner of 13th & Pine)
Time: Sunday, 3:00–5:00 pm
DJ: Jim Drew
Cost: A $5 donation for the food is requested of any attendees who don’t have full weekend registrations
What’s that? You haven’t had enough dancing? Then let’s blow out the weekend in style with an afternoon dance back at the Cuff, including a sampler of Seattle-area BBQ and sides to keep your strength up.
