For more on each of these events, see below.
Cuff Country

Every Friday night, we kick up our heels at The Cuff Complex (1533 13th Avenue, Seattle) from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. The evening starts at 7:30 pm with an hour of lessons covering favorite ccountry couples dances like two-step, waltz, and West Coast Swing, often with a line dance as well, followed by open dancing from 8:30 to 10:30 pm. The Friday dance mix is roughly 50% two-step, 25% line dance, and the rest a blend of other couples dances.

Alternate Wednesdays (1st, 3rd, and 5th) also see us at the Cuff Complex, from 8:30 pm until betweern 10:00 and 10:30 pm (depending on the crowd). A line dance lesson (usually intermediate or advanced) is taught at 8:30 pm, with open dancing starting at 9:00. The Wednesday dance mix varies from 1/3 to 1/2 line dances, with the rest being couples dances.

Lessons are always free (please tip the instructor) and no partner is required. There may be a cover charge at the Cuff Complex on Fridays after 9:00 pm. Our DJs are pleased to take requests; tipping them is recommended.

Saturday Dance Workshops
Rain Country presents Saturday afternoon (4:00-6:00 pm) dance workshops at the Cuff Complex, on the 1st and 2nd Saturdays of each month. The dances offered change each month, usually being a two-hour block of a single couples dance, offered both weeks to provide a full four-hours of instruction in the given dance. This also allows dancers who can only make it to one of the weeks to still get a good amount of instruction.
Rain Country dance workshops are offered on a by-donation basis. We suggest $5-10 for the two-hour session, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Half of your donation goes to the instructor, and the other half goes to Rain Country, to enable us to put on the 4th Saturday dances once a month, the annual Emerald City Hoedown, and other events.
The Cuff Complex graciously allows us to use their dance floor space for our workshops. Please be sure to purchase a beverage from the upstairs bar during the workshop (and tip the bartender). This is the best way to thank them!
Country Dancing at Swank
On Monday nights, serving south King and Pierce counties, we dance at Swank (24437 Russell Rd, in Kent) from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. Lessons are from 7:30-8:30 pm, usually either a couples lesson and a line dance or just line dance lessons; oepn dancing is available both before and after the lesson. The dance mix is similar to that at the Cuff on Friday nights, but with a little more line dancing.
Lowdown Hoedown
For those who want to hear classic country music — and where can you catch Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson on the radio or at a dance club these days — Rain Country and the Seattle Eagle (314 E. Pike, Seattle) present an evening of classic country music on the second Tuesday of each month. This is music only, no dancing. Featured music is primarily from the 1960s to the 1980s, with selections from beyond that range. Think George and Tammy, Conway and Loretta, Dolly and Kenny, Willie and Waylon and the Boys, the Hag and Bocephus and the Man in Black.
Emerald City Hoedown
After a great success with Hoedown 2008, Rain Country announces our second annual weekend hoedown on April 24-26, 2009. Details are still being arranged but the dates are now known, so mark your calendars.

Country-Western Dance Calendar For Seattle and the Greater Pacific Northwest

This information is aimed especially at the Seattle country-western dance community, but covers events throughout the greater Pacific Northwest region as well. The current week’s worth of the following information is sent out via e-mail on a weekly basis to the T-100 e-mail list as well as being posted on the Rain Country website. If you know of a mailing list which would welcome this weekly message, or if you would like to receive and individual copy by e-mail, please contact us.

For corrections and additions, please contact us.
Please note that the weekly mailing usually goes out on Monday night.
Items received after 6:00 pm Monday may not make it into the e-mail version of the calendar for that week.
All events are subject to change without notice.

The following Country-Western and Rodeo websites were used to gather this information:
Rain Country (Seattle)
T-100 (Seattle CW Dance List)

If your group serves the country-western dance community in Seattle or other parts of the Pacific Northwest, please contact us to have your events listed.

UPDATE: As of July 1, 2008, event listings will be presented via Google Calendars. There are two separate calendars, one for Rain Country and other country/western dance and rodeo events, and the other for square dancing events. Each calendar can be navigated by day, week or month, and events can be listed in a list (choose the "Agenda" view) or in a print-friendly format.

For details on any event on the calendar, just click the event to see a pop-up window.

Send your event details to us. We will try to list all dance and rodeo events expected to be of interest to the GLBTQ leather community, including both one-time events and recurring ones. Include the event name, date, time, location, cost for the event, and contact info, plus a short description if available. Deadline for sending items to be included in the weekly e-mail version of the calendar is Monday at 6:00 pm (Pacific time). Items and corrections provided at other times will be inserted into the online calendar as they are received (and as we have time).
Disclaimer: Rain Country is not responsible for either the events listed here nor for the accuracy of the information included.
We apologize if we fail to include your event, but we’re only human. Sometimes events, vacations, work, and life get in the way.
And you better get it to us before the deadline if you want it in the listings.
